As I was out shopping recently, it annoyed me to find that many of the stores were already stocked full of Christmas stuff. I still have my fall wreath on my door and am trying to figure out what on earth I might be able to contribute for Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving can mean a number of things to various people.

One of the greatest joys in my life is being an aunt to five amazing kids.   I take this job very seriously.  I like to spend time with these little humans, getting to know their personalities, likes and dislikes, and generally just trying my best to maintain “favorite aunt” status in their lives.

Ever since I was young, I have been mesmerized by stories. I lived in a world of Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, and The Berenstain Bears. As I got older, the characters changed and the books grew thicker, but I never lost my love for the stories they presented. Along the way, I developed an appreciation for stories of characters overcoming obstacles and surviving.

Halloween is just around the corner. I have to say that there is a lot that I love about this time of year. Crisp air, turning leaves, a squash cornucopia, and roasted pumpkin seeds are all delightful. Similarly delightful—people seem to put their thinking caps on for issues of gender inequity, social constructions, and oppression.
