I spoke to literally no one who cared very much about the Super Bowl. The closest people came to caring was when they were talking about the food they were going to prepare. Even then, it was maybe with the same gusto as they would discuss Sunday dinner.

So why the indifference? Why did my little neck of America feel so numb about what is arguably the biggest televised event of the year? Here are just a couple of my musings.

In my quest for a blog topic this week, I stumbled upon the fact that January is national tea month. This is fabulous, as I am an avid tea drinker. It’s a safe assumption that most folks are back to work, school or normal life after the holidays. Some may be looking to that next “holiday” or “day off.” For some it might be January 19th. This is the day set aside to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.

As the new year begins, we must remember that SANE programs cannot sustain themselves in a vacuum—they rely on both intra- and interdisciplinary collaboration to maintain a patient-centered focus and establish themselves as a critical component of any community’s response to sexual violence. Traditionally we’ve thought about victim advocates, law enforcement professionals and prosecutors as our key collaborators.
