Blogger Bio: Feminism excites me! Let's take a look at the way it informs, impacts and shapes the movement against sexual violence.

Blog Description: A blog about the growth of feminist thought and praxis in the movement to end sexual violence.

People incarcerated in U.S. Detention Centers face the reality of rape, sexual abuse, and sexual harassment every day. In the wake of the Sandusky trial, I often heard reference to “real justice” being served once he was in prison. Rape in prison is commonly acknowledged as widespread.

I think tech stuff is super cool. I really like learning about it, and talking about it, and brainstorming ways to harness technology for the greater good.

I’ve been reflecting recently on dissonant logic in some of our responses to sexual violence. Nearly every day that I spend in the movement, I hear folks talk about preserving evidence, increasing reporting, and holding people who commit sexual violence accountable through criminal and legal proceedings. I know that dedicated members of the anti-violence movement have spent abundant time and energy on improving systemic responses to sexual violence.

Charged with the task of discussing healthy masculinity in honor of the Healthy Masculinity Action Project Blog Carnival, I lost all focus. On first, the struggle began with feeling rather ill-equipped to write about this topic as a cisgender woman. It rounds a sharp curve at second, where one might elaborate on the role of traditional masculinity in fostering rape culture.

If you’re reading this blog, there’s a good chance that you have harnessed the power of social media for good. Starting off with a pretty smarmy title on this post, there’s also a good chance that I won’t pull it off. Hang in there with me for a few. I’m not talking about being that person who has “like, a million friends” on Facebook (shameless self-promotion!).

Ok, that wasn’t so bad. Let’s say it again. “My body is beautiful.”

“I love and appreciate my body.”

“I thank my body for strength, courage, and protection.”

“I am grateful for the good food that nourishes my body and fuels my life, love, and work.”

Friday June 15 (that’s tomorrow!!) marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Acknowledging that both feminist activism and sexual violence cross all boundaries, I asked a member of our lifespan project team to provide some insight on aging in the anti-violence movement. See the full response below:
