Mapping Prevention: YES we can!
“Prevention is hard!”
How many times have you heard that phrase? Many people understand primary prevention as a good concept, but it can be challenging. How does this approach to prevention play out in their community, and how do they get people to buy in to the concept that sexual violence is preventable?
I am so glad the fabulous folks at the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance (VSDVAA) have thought this through and created useful tools through their YES campaign! Although developed specifically by and for agencies and communities in Virginia, the “Yes: changing the future with fresh ideas and effective tools” campaign is useful for anyone looking for resources on how to frame prevention for their agency and community. The Recipe for Prevention card is a great place to start. Then be sure and check out the Prevention Talking Points that were created to supplement the recipe card.
For the 3rd installment of our Mapping Prevention video podcast series, I sat down for a chat with Jonathan Yglesias, Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator for VSDVAA, about the campaign and the idea of branding prevention. Watch the video, and then let me know what you think about the campaign by posting a comment below.
