A Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is a multidisciplinary interagency team of individuals working collaboratively to provide services for the community by offering specialized sexual assault intervention services. The NSVRC works with responders from around the United States to identify resources, translate research findings and analyze policy will assist in the development, enhancement and sustainability of SARTs. The SART listserv promotes ongoing dialogue and information sharing among community and professional organizations/agencies that respond to sexual violence. The SART Listserv supports the safety, justice and autonomy of all victims and survivors of sexual violence; works to meet the needs of underserved/marginalized service providers in the development of SARTs; and creates a forum to enhance the response to systems advocacy and sexual violence prevention initiatives among sexual assault response teams.

With funding from the Office for Victims of Crime and assistance from a national advisory committee, the NSVRC created a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Toolkit to promote the development and implementation of a coordinated, multidisciplinary, and victim-centered first response to victims of sexual assault in communities across the United States and U.S. Territories. The Toolkit Project provides resources to help communities customize their outreach and expand services.

SART protocols/guidelines are agreements between agencies about the provision of sexual assault services and the roles and responsibilities of core responders. Ultimately, protocols provide a way for team members to institutionalize interagency expectations in order to maintain high quality, consistent responses over the long-term.
