This project will create and implement an online didactic SAFE curriculum, taught over a 15 week period of time through a series of web-based modules and followed by a two-day clinical skills workship. The course will be offered four times between 2011 and 2012, allowing for a maximum of 75 clinician's in each training wave. Overall, this project will train 300 SAFEs over the cours of 15 months. All modules created for the course, including the clinical skills workship, will be abailable to selected trainees at no cost. A goal of this project is to serve the needs of rural and tribal communities with limited access to training resources.

Additionally, this project is being evaluated by Wayne State University, and therefore contains a significant evaluation component and committment. For this reason, providers who have already completed a SAFE/SANE training and are currently practicing as a SAFE/SANE, including thos who have already achieved SANE-A certification, will not be considered for participation in this course.

The 2011 Louisiana Conference on Sexual and Domestic Violence, themed on a concept developed by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape, will be an exciting three days of workshops, plenary sessions, exhibits and networking opportunities. A committee of representatives from the agencies co-sponsoring the conference, each of which deal with sexual assault issues in some capacity, have designed a program that will be valuable for law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, nurses and physicians, emergency medical personnel, crime lab staff, child advocates, child and adult protection staff, advocates, counselors, therapists, prevention educators, probation and parole officers, corrections officers, and sex offender treatment providers, as well as other professionals. This free P.O.S.T. approved course will be presented by the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy and the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence. The course will provide participants with the information and skills necessary to return to their respective agencies and teach domestic violence and sexual assault intervention and investigation skills. Program topics will include updated legal issues, proper service of protective orders, investigative techniques, officer and victim survival techniques, sexual abuse investigative techniques and more. Students attending the school will not only receive classroom instruction, but will have the opportunity to participate in various practical scenarios as well.
