The 2011 Spring Continuing Education for Forensic Professionals Program will be held March 28-April 2, 2011, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Program will be a week of training with 32 different courses. All courses are FREE and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The first 100 people who register (1 person per agency location) also receive free transportation. Lodging will be FREE to all approved attendees. The schedule allows attendees to participate in more than one course throughout the week.

The Continuing Education for Forensic Professionals program is offered by the West Virginia University (WVU) Forensic Science Initiative (FSI) in collaboration with the National Institute of Justice. The WVU FSI is an outreach and resource initiative that provides no-cost training to the public sector of the forensic science community. It is made possible with funding from the National Institute of Justice.

Receive free DNA laboratory and data analysis training at the Marshall University Forensic Science Center in Huntington, WV. This three day training session will be taught by our ABC certified DNA trainer utilizing lecture presentations, hands-on laboratory activities, and data analysis as described in the course Agenda. Individuals should have an advanced knowledge of forensic DNA applications including robotics, capillary electrophoresis instrumentation, and data analysis software, or have previously attended the MUFSC Advanced DNA Training course.

 

Laboratories interested in new advancements in the Forensic DNA Analysis field such as the Applied Biosystems’ 3500xL and GeneMapper ID-X, and the Qiagen Qiagility will benefit from the training modules provided in this session. Attendees of this training module should have prior general experience as it emphasizes instrument and software manipulation. Demonstrations of new products, methods and machinery will also be performed and can vary depending on the interest of the training group.

Covering each stage of forensic DNA testing, the Advanced DNA Training module emphasizes instrument and software manipulation.

 

Demonstrations of new products, methods and machinery will also be performed and can vary depending on the interest of the training group. The MUFSC can also customize trainings to meet the specific needs of laboratories; including various robotics and liquid handlers which can be made available for specialized training exercises.

The Sixth National Sexual Assault Response Team Training Conference will be held in Austin, Texas from May 25 - 27, 2011.
The primary focus of the Training Conference will be to expand the capacity of SARTs to promote health and healing of sexual assault survivors, hold offenders accountable for their crimes, and realize the hope of preventing future sexual violence in their communities.
The training will have an additional concentration on responding to victims of sexual assault in Native American communities.
The Office for Victims of Crime has made numerous scholarships available to encourage attendance at the conference.
Registration opens November 2010!
