Lead by trainer and content consultant Kimberly Womack, DHSc, MSN, ARNP-C, CEN, SANE-A, this 40-hour training provides medical professionals with increased knowledge of sexual assault and the forensic medical exam process as well as practical skills necessary to perform the exam.
The training is geared toward medical professionals: ARNPs, RNs, and physicians. The training will also be valuable to prosecutors, law enforcement officers, victim advocates and crime lab analysts.
Topic highlights include: Sexual Assault Response Team Roles Taking the Medical Forensic History Head to Toe Assessment/Forensic Documentation Trauma Identification Evidence Collection and Treatment Court Room Preparation and Testimony.
The training cost is $250 for the full week or $50 per day for individuals. Tuition fees are waved for law enforcement officers from the state of Florida and full tuition scholarships are available to communities within the state of Florida that send a complete Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) consisting of a nurse/physician, a law enforcement officer, a certified rape crisis program victim advocate, and a prosecutor. Scholarships for individual prosecutors are available through the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association (FPAA).

This year’s conference will be held at the Holiday Inn International Drive Resort in Orlando, Florida, from October 26 – 28, 2008. The FCADV Statewide Annual Training Institute committee invites proposals for workshops for its 2009 Annual Training Institute. The workshops should address cultural competency, diversity, anti-oppression, and related issues. Workshops focusing on culturally informed advocacy, services, and interactions with communities of color, the elderly, differently-abled, LBGTQ population, immigrants and refugees, trafficking victims, runaway and homeless youth and other marginalized populations are invited.

This year’s institute will include a sexual violence track sponsored by the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence. Submission of workshop proposals addressing culturally-specific outreach to/and or interventions with survivors of sexual violence are strongly encouraged.
