The Institute, sponsored by NIJ's Small, Rural, Tribal and Border Regional Center (SRTB-RC), is targeted/designed for the command staff/supervisory personnel of small, rural, tribal and border law enforcement agencies containing fewer than 50 sworn officers. Participants will receive information and assistance on existing and developing technologies, work through problems relating to technology implementation, and exchange technology lessons learned that are important to the small, rural, tribal and border law enforcement community.As part of the program, participants are required to give a brief presentation on a technology issue that their department has encountered or is in the process of implementing. The presentation can be either an issue to be dealt with or a lessons-learned format, depending on whether the program has been completed, and must be submitted with the application.

Today's schools face a host of interrelated issues and challenges that influence student safety, well-being, and achievement. This conference concentrates on what is currently being done and what we can improve upon to positively affect key issues the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS) is striving to improve upon across our nations schools. Community leaders will have an opportunity to explore these topics show how we can take action on these new initiatives.

Sessions at the conference will focus on youth alcohol and drug abuse prevention; bullying and cyberbullying; violence prevention in schools; emergency management; health, mental health, and physical education; data collection; special populations; and emerging issues. The conference targets potential OSDFS grantees, juvenile justice practitioners, policymakers, education and prevention leaders, and school administrators, among others.

Description: 

Organized by the Office of Student Development and student interns, the second annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event will send men in bright red four-inch heels wobbling down Washington Avenue to raise awareness of sexual violence issues. Through registration fees and donations, the march also will support the Rape Crisis Center at For All Seasons, a nonprofit that provides mental-health services throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

A $5 fee is required, with all proceeds going to For All Seasons. Each registered walk participant—male, female, heels or no heels—will receive an event T-shirt. Deadline for registering to walk in heels is April 18, however, registrations will be accepted until the start of the walk. (Rain date for the event is May 5.)
