The University of Missouri-Kansas City’s (UMKC) Violence Prevention and Response Project, in collaboration with the Women’s Center, Multicultural Student Affairs, the Activity and Program Council, Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and other campus and community organizations, is hosting the 2009 Take Back the Night March and Rally as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.UMKC’s Take Back the Night march will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. There will be a pre-march rally at 6:30 p.m. at the UMKC Women’s Center, 105 Haag Hall, including free refreshments and information on local advocacy groups. A march to JC Nichols Fountain will be begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a speakout at the Fountain at 8 p.m.

2nd Annual Forensics Investigation
Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse—From Scene to Courtroom
This program is designed to educate healthcare providers regarding the standard of practice when working with victims of violence. Topics will include learning to work within a multidisciplinary role with law enforcement, learning to implement forensic medicine and nursing into medicine and nursing practice and understanding that violence is a healthcare crisis and the role that professionals play in implementing the healing process. The conference is designed for physicians, nurses, public health employees, law enforcement representatives, EMS, prosecutors and community advocates.

The 2008 G.R.E.A.T. National Training Conference will provide strategies for:

-Preventing youth crime, violence, and gang involvement in order to create safe communities.
-Developing positive relationships with youth, parents, school staff, community partners, and others.
-Improving the delivery of the middle school curriculum, elementary school curriculum, summer program, and G.R.E.A.T. Families program.

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Mobilize a multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the sexual assault victim: SANE, advocacy, & police.
• Complete a sexual assault exam.
• Document sexual assault injuries in digital format.
• Complete a domestic violence screening and activate
advocacy response team.
• Discuss the diversity/cultural issues in victims of
sexual assault
Registration:
Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to ensure an
optimal student/instructor ratio.
The registration form and $350.00 course fee is due
by January 2, 2009.
All registrants must be a registered nurse prior to enrollment.
