Description:
  • Song of the Sea is two shows: SIRENS and The Girl from Bare Cove, both created out of an impulse to give voice to sexual violence survivors and to encourage community healing and public awareness.

  • Conceived, composed, and directed by survivors Jillie Mae Eddy and Maridee Slater,Song of the Sea is not autobiographical or a retelling of real-life events, but rather a way for these women to transform their experiences into something constructive, something beautiful, something they hope will inspire other survivors to transform their experiences into works of art.

  • We aim to initiate a folk art movement that will inspire and encourage survivors, their loved ones, and anyone intimately affected by these acts to transform their experiences into works of art. We believe that our shared histories have just as much power to bring us together as they do to keep us apart--and that's exactly what we're going to do with this show.

  • SIRENS - A sideshow symphony with sounds inspired by the Vaudeville stage, sea shanties, Barnum and Bailey, and burlesque clubs, SIRENS is a dream. A nightmare. An exhibition of biological rarities and mundane regularities, asking: What makes us human?

  • The Girl From Bare Cove - follows a family in crisis as they face the near-loss of one of their own. With songs inspired by the folk sounds of New England and a story rooted in the ghostly traditions and fairy tales of that place, this modern-day fable invites us to explore the communities we share and the worlds we build for ourselves.
