On Friday, April 11, 2014, VIBS Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center will host its annual Suffolk County Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Conference at the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro College. The goal of this event is to bring together community stakeholders to share knowledge and ideas about how to prevent and respond to sexual assault. This event is open to the entire community, and will draw participants from various fields, including law enforcement, education, and other human service agencies.This year's conference will focus on prevention and response to child sexual abuse and will highlight the Enough Abuse Campaign, a national grassroots movement aimed at providing adults and communities with the knowledge and skills to put an end to the child sexual abuse epidemic. The day’s events will include a continental breakfast and networking lunch, morning panel session, workshops, and closing plenary address.The theme of this year’s conference is “Beyond Stranger Danger: Uncovering the Truth about Child Sexual Abuse” The focus of this event will be on the prevention of and response to child sexual assault. Throughout the conference we will highlight Enough Abuse Suffolk, one of three New York pilot sites participating in the Enough Abuse Campaign.This campaign, developed in Massachusetts with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), focuses on adult and community responsibility to prevent child sexual abuse, and we are so excited to share this revolutionary initiative with conference attendees!Additional details and registration information will be available in early March on VIBS' website. VIBS Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center, in collaboration with Stony Brook University Medical Center and the NY State Department of Health, invites Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Physicians Assistants and Medical Doctors to attend the Suffolk County SANE/SAFE Training Program.A new SAFE/SANE training program has been scheduled from February 17-21.  It will be held at Stony Brook University Medical Center and is open to those licensed as N.P., R.N., P.A., or M.D. and have at least one year of clinical experience.  The program is a 5 day/40 hour comprehensive didactic training.  The SAFE/SANE training program meets the guidelines of the International Association of Forensic Nurses and offers its graduates 40 C.E.U.’s.  The tuition is $750.00.A Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) is a medical professional who provides compassionate care to adult and adolescent survivors of rape and sexual assault by obtaining medical histories, collecting forensic evidence and offering preventative medications.All interested parties wanting details regarding the informational sessions, may contact Jennifer, SANE liaison at VIBS, at 631-360-3730 or jjones@vibs.org

Gender violence cannot be eradicated without changing attitudes, especially those of men and boys.  Increasingly, the movement to prevent and end gender violence is working to foster communities of male allies who recognize and reject this violence in all of its forms.  Engaging men (and boys) with these issues on a large scale will immensely strengthen our movement.

"Bystanders No More" will bring together influential activists and thought leaders who will discuss why men and boys should have a stake in the movement to end gender violence and what they can do to become leaders.
