This report illustrates the results of a cross-national study based on in-depth interviews from both experts and average Americans on Sexual Violence. This study, supported by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center comprises the following three components: 1) an analysis of the discourse on sexual violence from expert interviews, 2) one-on-one cognitive interviews with Americans, and 3) a comparative analysis that “maps the gaps” between expert and lay understandings of this topic. The report concludes with a set of recommendations that will improve communications practice around this issue and inform future research.

The National Resource Sharing Project (RSP) and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) have developed two assessment tools to assist those working with victims of sexual violence in identifying strengths and strategies to improve their practice. The Personal Assessment tool will help individual advocates to reflect on their own services, knowledge and relationships with community partners.  The Organizational Assessment will help organizations’ leadership staff to better understand the state of their service provision overall, their entire staff’s knowledge and their organization’s relationships with community partners.

The occurrence of sexual violence is related to one’s access to safe and affordable housing. This is true for both sexual violence perpetration and vicpicture of door of white housetimization. Oppression can both heighten risk and compound the barriers that sexual violence victims and survivors encounter in housing arenas. This guide is intended to equip advocates with information and resources to support their housing advocacy efforts. To these ends, information on housing as both a sexual violence prevention and intervention advocacy area is explored.

This guide is part of the Housing and Sexual Violence Information Packet. The packet also includes: the National Survey of Advocates on Sexual Violence, Housing, and the Violence Against Women Act; an overview; a fact sheet; an online resource collection; and a technical assistance bulletin on housing and sexual violence.

In 2008, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center partnered with the Victims Rights Law Center, National Sexual Assault Coalition Resource Sharing Project, Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault, University of New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania Community Legal Services to develop and conduct a national survey on housing and sexual violence.  This report provides a summary of key survey findings and policy recommendations.
