(AP) Starting next year across the country, rape victims too afraid or too ashamed to go to police can undergo an emergency-room forensic rape exam, and the evidence gathered will be kept on file in a sealed envelope in case they decide to press charges.

Newswise — The University of Illinois at Chicago has received a $2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to investigate sexual assault victims' recovery.

 

The five-year study will examine how support received by female victims of sexual assault aids their coping and post-assault adjustment -- particularly as it relates to post-traumatic stress disorder, problem drinking and positive adaptation.

 

MONTGOMERY, Ala., April 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Residents of 25 states and three other countries will take a stand against the sexual exploitation of farmworker women and other low-wage female immigrant workers in April as part of the "Bandana Project," a partnership between the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and community groups, universities and other advocacy organizations to raise awareness and educate these women about their rights.

University Park, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- The mother of one of the alleged sex abuse victims in the Penn State scandal said she was "absolutely horrified" by the developments and wants the perpetrator "to be put away for a long time."

 

"I want justice," the mother said on ABC's Good Morning America Friday, making reference to Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State coach accused of sexually abusing youths.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) -- The accused came from all walks of life: Retirees, dads and twentysomethings. An engineer, a business owner and an auto worker. A man in a wheelchair. Men in need of Spanish or Farsi translators.
 
 
About 40 men somberly entered a classroom on a recent Saturday morning. About half of them wore shiny wedding bands.

(CNN) -- What began as an online protest over the controversial case of an alleged rape of a then-14-year-old girl became a street demonstration Tuesday night as hundreds of protesters gathered in a small Missouri town demanding "Justice for Daisy."

It was the first physical protest since the case launched a social media fervor driven by online activist group Anonymous.
