According to census data, about 15.8% (116,444 people) exclusively speak a language other than English at home. A low populated state, 4.3% (29,000 people) are Limited English Proficiency (LEP) with 33% of foreign born persons and 1.5% of Alaskan born inhabitants classified as such. About 3.9% (17,952 people) are classified as having a hearing disability, which is significantly higher than the national average of 2.08%. According to the CDC, more than 14,000 people identify as being blind or having a severe difficulty seeing even with glasses. 10.5% of the population lives below the poverty level and 9.2% of adults are classified as illiterate.
