NSVRC is partnering with Phoenix Gender-Based Violence Lab to conduct research for a trauma-informed needs assessment that addresses the needs, experiences, and priorities of survivors and their communities.
About the Study
The goal of this study is to better understand the current needs, challenges, and strengths within communities when it comes to supporting people affected by sexual violence — especially survivors. We want to learn directly from survivors, service providers, and members of the general public about:
What services and supports are most needed?
What barriers do people face

As I was talking with a friend last week about ChatGPT and other forms of AI large language models, she said something that has stuck with me – “I think the train has already left the station.”
My online web is simultaneously filled with some people saying “I asked ChatGPT” to answer a question, and other people sharing stickers that say ‘using AI is loser behavior,’ and encouraging everyone to use their own brains.
I come from a generation that was taught strict rules about choosing reputable sources and citing them correctly; at that point, we had just begun to even have online

Each April, communities across the country come together to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It’s a time to raise our voices, support survivors, and take meaningful steps toward prevention. We are deeply grateful for every person who showed up this April. Survivors, advocates, educators, students, organizers, and community members all played a role in making SAAM 2025 a powerful example of care, resilience, and action.
This year’s theme, Together We Act, United We Change, is more than a message. It’s a reminder that change is possible when we come together with intention and

Growing up in Maine, I often heard the words “You can’t get there from here.” Working in the field of prevention, these words often echo in my mind. Luckily, my experience tells me that when we are working together we can in fact build a world free from sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. Using the principles of evaluation has actually helped me find a clear pathway to get to my next destination. With this in mind, we updated our foundational program evaluation course with new tips and examples.

Working as a communications professional in the field, I often hear how challenging it can be to talk about preventing sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. In fact, if there’s one constant in my 15+ years at NSVRC, it’s hearing from others about the difficulties they face when communicating about sexual violence and how it can be prevented.
Thankfully, over the years—and with the help of partners like the Berkeley Media Studies Group—NSVRC has learned a great deal about how to communicate more effectively about prevention. This learning has led us to develop a series of tools on best

Tuesday April 29, 2025: Stand With Survivors. Support Prevention.
April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)— a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and take action to prevent sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. This year’s theme is “Together We Act, United We Change.” It’s a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating safer communities and ending sexual violence.
