I've always loved children’s books and now, as a mother of a toddler, I have become even more enthralled with them. At home we have books in every room, on the floor, on the furniture, and a few on shelves. It warms my heart that my little one loves books as much as I do. Today I wanted to share a few of the stories we have already enjoyed together and a few I will introduce to my kiddo later on. These stories, also held in the Respect Together Libraries, are perfect for parents or caregivers to share with their little ones to help introduce and recognize Black History Month.

I’m black and I’m proud.” Although it would take several times for me to finally find the courage, I would recite it back to him shouting with confidence. Through the continuous teachings of my

This is a guest blog post by Sarah Harrison, Anti-Human Trafficking Specialist at the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
When you start searching the internet for information regarding human trafficking, it is likely that within a few clicks you will run across the term “modern day slavery.” This term has been used by everyone from local non-profits to law enforcement task forces to President Obama, and it has largely been accepted and solidified as a holistic descriptor of what human trafficking is.
However, it is important for us as a movement to take a moment to reflect

Once December rolls around each year, I dive headlong into listening to holiday music. Classic songs bring back warm holiday memories from years past, and I find myself singing along as I’m decorating, wrapping gifts, or driving to visit family and friends.
Every year, though, one song gives me pause – “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” There are countless different versions and covers of the song, but the gist is always the same: a duet where one person wants to leave a party, while the other spends the whole song convincing them to stay.
"The Answer is No"
This song can be uncomfortable for a

For survivors and/or those of us who are serving and supporting survivors, it’s that time of year when we may feel like we’re speeding up when we should be slowing it down. Community and social change work is hard, pressing, ongoing work; yet that doesn’t mean we can’t pause for a moment to give ourselves a little rest. But most of the time it seems we do not give ourselves the permission to do

TALKING POINTS
Many are wondering why it took nearly three decades for repeated allegations of sexual harassment and assault by Harvey Weinstein to be taken seriously. This inappropriate behavior was known to employees, journalists and Hollywood corporations, yet a culture of fear and intimidation kept survivors silent. It is clear we must change the way we think about sexual violence and victims.
Sexual violence is a widespread problem.
Sexual violence – in all its forms, including sexual harassment in the workplace - is a serious and widespread societal issue. Sexual harassment

These days when a tragedy occurs – whether in our own communities or across the world – the graphic details make their way into our lives between non-stop news coverage and social media feeds flooded with updates.
We may want to learn all we can about the tragedy to stay current, to feel connected, and to try to make sense of the loss of life. But for some survivors of sexual violence, the pervasive coverage of these traumatic events, such as the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, can
