Calling all young change-makers ages 5-18
Want to participate in SAAM 2023?
GENERAL CALL: Get creative for SAAM: Make a meme or other visual content with a meaningful message that connects to any aspect of our SAAM theme, Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity, and it could be shared and featured in our online campaign. Select entrees will be chosen for prizes.
FOR PARENTS: Want to encourage your child to get creative and participate in SAAM? Have a conversation with your child about any aspect of the SAAM theme (such as anti-bullying, equality, social justice history, inclusion, disability awareness- the possibilities are endless!), then invite them to create an image, drawing, meme, or other visual. Parents are welcome to share the image with us by the end of April 2023 and submit it via email to jheinze@nsvrc.org
Don’t know where to start? Learning and asking questions is a key part of making meaningful connections. Start by helping your child understand the terms “equality,” “diversity,” or “inclusion,” and ask them why they feel it’s important. Ask your child to draw a person who has made a meaningful difference in their community or to come up with an anti-bullying slogan. These resources may help get conversations and ideas flowing.
Guidelines:
We invite all our young changemakers to participate in our SAAM 2023 Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity campaign. All messages must be positive, original, hate-free, and connected to our SAAM 2023 theme or topics. Messages must show inclusion for all bodies, all identities, all people. Submissions can be made in English or Spanish. Parents are welcome to submit on behalf of their children.
For example, possible themes could be:
- Anti-bullying
- Diversity
- Ableism awareness
- Anti-racism
- Consent
- Empowerment
- Body positivity
- Social justice
- Or choose your own
Deadline: All submissions must be sent to jheinze@nsvrc.org by the end of April 2023 to be considered for a prize. Participants are encouraged to post their contributions on social media under the #SAAM2023 and #MemesWithAMessage hashtag. Submissions can be in the form of a meme, a gif, a photo (no faces shown), a graphic, or a handmade drawing. By sending submissions, you give permission for NSVRC to share them on social media, feature them on the online SAAM campaign, or include them in collages and graphics. Please include your first name and age with your submission, which will be included when and if the content is shared. Not all submissions will be shared.
Note: Public domain photos are allowed as are original photos. Any personal photos must not have any faces shown.
