Hurricane Katrina
This report documents the perspectives of 38 women who were interviewed about their experiences during and after Hurricane Katrina. It provides an analysis of women’s increased vulnerability during times of disaster and presents policy recommendations to address those needs in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and future disasters.
Haiti Earthquake
The International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission and SEROvie describe the effects of the 2010 earthquake on the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community in Haiti. They examine the broader global context of disasters and emergency responses, and their impact on LGBT individuals, families, and communities. The report is available in English and French.
This report presents findings from interviews with more than fifty survivors of rape or attempted rape in Haiti’s camps for internally displaced persons since the 2010 earthquake. It describes the conditions that contribute to sexual violence, highlights the lack of prevention and response, and makes recommendations to the Haitian government and international community.
