The Asian Women’s Shelter addresses one of OVW’s Priority Issue Areas, community-driven initiatives to address violence against women among diverse and underserved populations. AWS offers a multi-leveled, community-driven approach to technical assistance through building the capacity of survivors and members of underserved communities to respond to violence against women directly within their communities, as well as in partnership with OVW grantees. AWS’s TA project has three main components: Peer-to-Peer Comprehensive Technical Assistance, Community Driven Initiatives, and Collaborative Training and Technical Assistance. AWS provides TA through a peer approach, sharing on-the-ground experience, training and practical applications, while honoring the expertise and community-driven perspectives unique to each TA site. In a joint selection process, OVW and AWS select 5-7 sites annually for intensive, on-site training and technical assistance. Through participation as Peer-to-Peer TA sites, community-based programs across the country have been able to start language and culturally competent shelter programs; replicate AWS’s Multilingual Access Model; strengthen collaboration with law enforcement and other OVW grantees; create major philosophical and structural change within their organizations to respond to changing demographics; and reach new segments in their geographic areas, such as faith-based institutions, non-English speaking populations, and LGBT communities. AWS, in collaboration with community based partners and other partner OVW TA providers, provides additional training and technical assistance to 20-50 sites through on-site training and email and phone correspondence.

Banteay Srei is a safe space for young Southeast Asian women, that promotes education, community and leadership development to foster cultural pride, and self-determination for women at-risk of or engaged in sexual exploitation.

Banteay Srei provides social, peer and intergenerational support, healing arts, reproductive health education, life skills-building and leadership development. The name Banteay Srei comes from an ancient temple in Cambodia which means “the women’s temple”- built to honor female deities and representing strength, unity, and safety. This name was chosen to inspire a space that would be created to honor women and provide tools for self-empowerment.

Casa de la Familia (CDLF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1996 by Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Ana Nogales, whose vision was to create an organization dedicated to ensuring the long-lasting mental health success of individuals who have experienced a psychological trauma. 

Casa de la Familia provides individual counseling, family counseling, group counseling, support groups, advocacy, crisis intervention, and outreach to both Los Angeles and Orange Counties

Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) is recognized nationally for our pioneering work in domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse services within the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Islander (API) community. We created the first multi-lingual 24-hour helpline assisting API survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the nation. We opened the first emergency shelter and the first transitional program specialized in serving API survivors.  

We provide a wide range of comprehensive services, focusing on the needs of survivors who seek to establish independent, violence-free lives. Our services are free of charge, conducted in many API languages. In 2005, we expanded our Community Program, focusing on community engagement and violence prevention programs.

Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) is dual domestic violence and sexual assault agency helping survivors and their families. Our mission is to build healthy and safe communities by addressing the root causes and consequences of family violence and violence against women. CPAF is committed to meeting the specific cultural and language needs of Asian Pacific Islander (API) women and their families. All of our services are free of charge and available in 30+ API languages.

Centro La Familia Advocacy Services offers a broad range of programs designed to assist crime victims, support families and children, promote health and wellness, encourage civic engagement and more. Many of our programs provide outreach, advocacy and education services to those in need. Working through our bilingual staff, we deliver those services in a manner that is respectful and culturally sensitive. Our Sexual Assault Services Culturally Specific Program (SASP) operates with the best practices “Promotora” model that encourages and builds trust with Latina victims. Services include crisis intervention and advocacy, support groups, and outreach and education.

The Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST) is an alliance of nonprofit service providers, grassroots advocacy groups and activists dedicated to providing human services and human rights advocacy to victims of modern-day slavery. CAST was founded in 1998 in the aftermath of the El Monte sweatshop case. Its mission is to assist persons trafficked for the purpose of forced labor and slavery-like practices and to work toward ending all instances of such human rights violations.

The East Los Angeles Women’s Center is a leading voice and advocate for survivors and their families affected by sexual, domestic, and intimate partner violence and HIV/AIDS. ELAWC delivers innovative, comprehensive, culturally-responsive services that build on a foundation of trauma-informed, evidence-based practices designed to heal, support, protect, and empower the communities we serve. Working in collaboration with our partners we also foster the implementation of policies and practices that support social justice and human rights.

Equality California brings the voices of LGBTQ people and allies to institutions of power in California and across the United States, striving to create a world that is healthy, just, and fully equal for all LGBTQ people. We advance civil rights and social justice by inspiring, advocating, and mobilizing through an inclusive movement that works tirelessly on behalf of those we serve.
 

The Farmworker Sexual Violence Technical Assistance Project is spearheaded by California Rural Legal Assistance in partnership with Esperanza: The Immigrant Women’s Legal Initiative of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Lideres Campesinas and the Victim Rights Law Center.

Together, we provide OVW grantees with:

One-on-one consultation on legal issues and strategies for lawyers and legal advocates on meeting the legal needs of farmworker sexual assault victims; three educational guides to assist legal service providers, criminal justice professionals and victim service providers in addressing the sexual assault of farmworkers; a farmworker safety plan in English and Spanish; a safety planning guide in English and Spanish designed for advocates to use with farmworkers; safety planning webinars; workshops for lawyers, judges and law enforcement agencies at national conferences; and regional trainings in farmworker communities in Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Specific areas of expertise include but are not limited to: * civil legal remedies for sexual assault victims including housing, education, public benefits, employment, immigration and privacy; outreach strategies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for farmworkers; cultural considerations when working with farmworkers; safety planning particular to farmworkers, including those living in labor camps; holistic representation of the comprehensive needs of farmworker victims of sexual violence; integration of the legal needs of farmworkers sexual violence victims into a coordinated community response; basic legal rights of farmworkers; and knowledge of the agricultural industry including its structure and practices.
