The mission of Alexandra House is to empower victims of domestic and sexual violence, and inspire social change, through education, support, and advocacy.

The mission of After Silence is to support, empower, validate, and educate survivors of rape, sexual abuse and all types of sexual violence by providing a safe, extensive, reliable and easy-to-read website where victims can find the answers and support they need to heal and reclaim their lives.

AfterSilence.org provides a free and safely moderated online support group, message board and chat room where survivors can connect with one another in real time, share their stories, ask questions and, above all, begin their path towards healing and recovery.

A Long Walk Home is a Chicago-based national non-profit that cultivates the next generation of leaders committed to gender equity and racial justice. Founded in 2003 by sisters Salamishah and Scheherazade Tillet, A Long Walk Home works with artists, students, activists, therapists, and community organizations and cultural institutions to elevate marginalized voices, facilitate healing, and activate social change.  

Twenty years before #MeToo, A Long Walk Home emerged as a leading organization in the United States using black feminist justice approaches to combat gender violence and racism. 

Womankind was founded in 1982 as the New York Asian Women’s Center, only 6 years after the first domestic violence shelter opened in New York City.

Through our programs, we offer survivors access to a safe place to live, counseling, legal assistance, wellness activities, and so much more. Though we are an expert in serving Asian communities, our services are valuable and available to all. Because of our specialty, we are contacted for assistance nationwide and even internationally. Whether in our services or in our increasing advocacy and policy work, Womankind first centers the survivor by uplifting them to control their own lives and narratives.

The Blue Ribbon Project is designed to be a community outreach in both the prevention of Child Abuse and a support network for abused and neglected children. At the Blue Ribbon Project, we understand that victims of child abuse carry a burden throughout their lives and the effects of abuse last a lifetime. That’s why we offer a variety of functional outreach programs that directly serve abused and neglected children in our community,  youth in foster care, as well as adult survivors of abuse and neglect. Through our dedication to these children, we remain committed to achieving our vision of raising awareness around child abuse in our communities and acting as advocates for those affected by child abuse and neglect. The Blue Ribbon Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that is volunteer driven and supported.

The SIA World Service Office serves both the many independent SIA support groups around the world, as well as individuals who contact us. We: publish and offer literature for sale; maintain the Directory of Meetings and keep current a list of members; maintain an SIA information phone line; issue quarterly Newsletters and offer speakers for outreach and education opportunities.

SIA, started in 1982, is a 12-Step, self-help recovery program modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous. There are no dues or fees. Confidentiality and anonymity are essential to our program. SIA is for men and women, 18 years and older, who were sexually abused as children. You will not be rejected because you think your abuse was “too horrible,” or you think your abuse wasn’t “bad enough to count.”

Because many people underestimate the developmental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual injuries that can result when people experience or witness traumatic events, Sidran Traumatic Stress Institute, Inc. (formerly Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of international scope that helps people understand, recover from, and treat traumatic stress (including PTSD)
dissociative disorders, and co-occurring issues, such as addictions, self injury, and suicidality.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead federal agency for research on mental illnesses. NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. The mission of NIMH is to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure.

A goal of MaleSurvivor is to overcome the sexual victimization of boys and men by helping professionals and others to better understand and treat adult male survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

The American Psychological Association (APA), based in Washington, DC, is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. APA’s mission is to advance creation, dissemination and application of psychological knowledge and practice to benefit society and improves people’s lives. The APA Violence Prevention Office (VPO) coordinates APA’s activities related to violence and injury prevention, and treatment on topics associated with child maltreatment, trauma, media violence, and youth violence. The office collaborates with other national associations, national collaboratives, and federal agencies to promote the contributions of psychology and psychologists to the understanding and prevention of violence.
